Public Policy COmmittee

The Public Policy Committee works to advance legislation that improves access to high quality genetics and genomics services. In New York State, we are actively advocating for state licensure for genetic counselors (GCs) to ensure patients can identify qualified clinicians and receive appropriate care. Nationally, we support policies such as the Access to Genetic Counselor Services Act, a federal legislation that would recognize GCs as healthcare providers under Medicare, increasing patient access to GC services. Further, our committee members also review and provide expert input on bills related to medical genetics, genomics and rare disease care. By engaging with legislators and collaborating with professional organizations, we aim to ensure patients and their families benefit from timely, equitable and comprehensive genetic services.
